Meet The Designer

Hello my name is Ty. I began creating and designing at a very early age. Creating something new and exciting is very attractive to me. I have had a life long love affair with vintage clothing and styles. The perfect soft cardigan sweaters-the elaborate evening gowns-the elegant and sophisticated tailored suits (made to hug curves and show off our girlish attributes) I love the hats-the shoes-the jewelry-the bags!!! Everything was made so well and the designs are as classic and beautiful today as they were then.

As a child I had every new Barbie doll and fashion that one could imagine but I always made an outfit or two or three that was my own. Nothing has changed. I love 800 series, 900 series and, oh! the 1600 series—nothing is better but I still have to make an outfit or two or three that is my own.

I was five when my great grandmother, Laura Chapman, to whom I have dedicated a dress in this line, taught me to sew (hand stitching).
(see dress below)

I made a dress for my doll that was sewn closed onto her for dear life. As I got older I watched the adults sew on their machines and armed with this knowledge I took sewing in Junior High School Home Economics and I have been sewing ever since.

In High School I took Fashion Design/Interior Design class and there I found my niche. In the class we studied Interior Design and Fashion Design. For our final exam we had to design and sew an entire garment and model it for all to see. I was asked to be the host and to sketch the design for the front of the program. What a dream for me, that was! I still remember the theme “Poetry in Motion”. The sketch was that of a curvaceous woman wearing a vintage fitted suit and an oversize hat with long gloves.

I attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (F.I.D.M.) in 1985 and fine tuned my skills. I was able to work with some very interesting and exciting people and I will cherish my time there forever. The sketches that you see here are from my F.I.D.M. years.

These are some of my favorite sketches because I think that they show my design range. The styles are reflective of the 80’s time period, thus the heavily padded shoulders.
